Often referred to as the “house on the hill,” Sterns transformed into the world’s first true superclub, becoming a beacon for a vibrant community of partygoers.

At the heart of this thrilling journey was Mensa, a passionate figure whose influence shaped nightlife. His dedication resonated with countless ravers. This documentary pays tribute to Mensa’s contributions and highlights the unforgettable nights at Sterns that defined an entire generation.

As we approach the 30th anniversary of Sterns’ closing, the resurfacing of the ’90s rave documentary titled ‘Mensa: Lord of the Rave’ invites us to rediscover this historic venue. You can watch it for free on YouTube.

Gone are the days of cell phones dominating our interactions; the ‘90s was an era where illegal outdoor raves mixed with dynamic nightclub environments. Memories shared by ravers reveal that Sterns, nestled in a 19th Century mansion in Worthing, West Sussex, offered a unique atmosphere that distinguished it from other venues.

Notable acts like N-Joi and The Prodigy graced the stage, alongside legendary DJs such as Sasha, Moby, and Carl Cox. The excitement was further fueled by an afterparty spot known as “The Farm.” 

Promoted through vibrant flyers and word-of-mouth, Sterns attracted party-goers from across the UK and beyond until closing in 1993. The nights, orchestrated by Mensa, were promoted by ‘In-Ter-Dance.’ The 90-minute film, produced and directed by David Kenny, provides a captivating glimpse into this unforgettable chapter of nightlife history.
